Its official title is the Institute for Nonprofit Capacity at Northern Kentucky University, but it could become better known as a “fitness center for nonprofits.” That’s what Director John Vissman envisions as a retooled INC prepares to reintroduce itself to the community.  Its August 7 relaunch will include a seminar for nonprofit leaders on ways to work together and improve and measure  performance, and will feature a keynote from Carol Lukas of the Fieldstone Alliance, a group that helps organizations plan for change.

INC also plans to unveil a Web site that will help nonprofits tap into the resources (some free) available at NKU. “Some of the services we offer might surprise people,” Vissman says. A sampler: a Virtual CIO program where IT students assess high-tech capacity and help solve problems, and professional-caliber photography that can be used in marketing, branding and fundraising. INC, part of NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement, will also match nonprofits to service learning classes, where students get to work on real-world projects and the NFP gets a needed service. Nonprofits can register with INC at the new Web site or become paying members, which qualifies them for discounts on seminars. Registration for the Aug. 7 seminar is $40; it can be done online at www.peopleware.net/0971 or by calling 859-572-5600.
