GE Aviation earns $750 million-plus investment from Saudi air force

The Royal Saudi Air Force has invested more than three-quarters of a billion to re-equip its F15S fighter jets with engines from Cincinnati-based GE Aviation.  The Saudis ordered 91 engines from GE’s F110 engine family, which follows a 2007 Royal Saudi order of 65 F110 engines. The combined value of the two Royal Saudi orders–156 F110 engines and logistics support — exceeds $750 million. “This selection reinforces the growing acceptance of the F-15/F110 combination among international operators,” says Al DiLibero, a GE Aviation general manager. Indeed, for more than 20 years, GE’s F110 family has been the best-selling engine on single-engine F-16 fighters worldwide, including in the Middle East. Recently, GE has made strides in getting the F110 engine onto the twin-engine F-15. The F110 was first selected for 40 F-15K aircraft in 2002 by South Korea’s air force, then Singapore recently chose the engine for its F-15SG aircraft.
