Last Day for the American Dream
April 21st

What is your idea of the “American Dream?” Is it what our Founding Fathers laid out with “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Or maybe you’re one the “wife, 2.5 kids and white picket fence” type. Well whatever your idea, InkTank is providing the chance to think (or perhaps re-think) about what the “American Dream” means to you with the Project American Dream Series. They’re hosting a writer’s workshop run by Bottom Dog Press, Inc authors Terry Hermsen and Jeff Gundy beginning Saturday April 25th. Both authors will conduct simultaneous workshops from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at InkTank World Headquaters. The Series is limited to 20 participants and today (Tuesday) is the last day for pre-registration, so don’t wait around! Ways to register include: 1. Mail your completed registration and payment to InkTank at 1311 Main St. Cincinnati, OH 45202 or 2. Contact Ryan at 513-542-0195 and pay in person or 3. It’s said “behind every great man there’s a great woman.” Well the 2009 YWCA Career Women of Achievement are standing front and center all by themselves. This year eight honorees receive the title-joining the company of 234 other accomplishewomen-being recognized for making major contributions to the workplaces of Greater Cincinnati. The 2009 30th Anniversary YWCA Salute to Career Women of Achievement Luncheon takes place this Tuesday evening at the Duke Energy Convention Center. The 30th “pearl” Anniversary is so named because this year’s honorees are “the pearls of our community”- culminating three decades of women who best exemplify personal career success, dynamic leadership qualities and the unique ability to serve as role models. Elizabeth Vargas, Co-anchor ABC News 20/20, will act as the keynote speaker for the luncheon. Tickets for this event are priced $50 per person; table sponsorship begins at $1,000. Take advantage of this great opportunity to see and hear from the women who are making an impact each and everyday on Cincinnati. Click here for a list of honorees and ticket information.
PB&J-Not the Smuckers Kind
April 24
Ikea isn’t the only thing turning out Swedish imports this week. Peter Bjorn and John-a humble yet quirky trio from Stockholm-will perform Friday night at Southgate House as part of their United States concert tour. This Indie Rock band combines the harmonica, guitars, keyboards and strange percussion patterns to form what they call “good music.” PB & J have been turning out songs for a decade now and claim two of those years were successful. Don’t miss their one night performance in the Ballroom. Show starts at 9:30 p.m. and tickets are $20 in advance or $25 day of show. Click here for tickets.
Treasure Hunt
April 25
Everyone loves a good treasure hunt-just look at how many millions Nick Cage earned by chasing clues all over the world on the big screen. Well the hunt is over as The Greenwich unveils their latest exhibit, Art of the Everyday. Area artists display paintings, drawings, photos, ceramics, assemblages and other mixed-media works that show us the hidden treasures of our everyday existence. This Saturday get upstairs at The Greenwich for the exhibit’s opening reception beginning at 7 p.m. The exhibit continues through May 30.
Pansies Stimulus 2009
April 26

Cincinnati has a stimulus plan of their own and it’s in the way of pansies. The P&G Flower Carpet on Fountain Square will be dismantled this Sunday and the potted pansies are yours for the taking. The best part, they’re absolutely free! Your flower beds will never have looked better with the variety of colored pansies to choose from as part of the annual show planted by the Fountain Square Management Group and the Cincinnati Park Board. The only catch, a limit of 6 pots per person at a time, but there is no restriction of how many times you can go through the line. So grab everyone you know and line ’em up for your share of the 24,000 plants. Dismantle begins at 8 a.m. on Fountain Square.
