On Friday evening the University of Cincinnati’s Kaplan Theater will screen the upcoming PBS documentary, The New Neighbors: How One Town Created A Vibrant, Integrated Suburb. The film tells the true and inspiring story of how a suburban town in New Jersey successfully reversed segregation and built, as the title implies, a vibrant, integrated community. The film premiere is just one part of Agenda 360‘s Transformational Dialogue series. Following the movie’s conclusion, attendees are invited to participate in a discussion around how to promote intentionally-integrated communities in our region. To register call (513) 579-3111.

Prepare your aria, bust out the falsettos and don’t forget to cue the maestro, for Cincinnati Opera’s first-ever Opera Idol. It’s the perfect remedy for the American Idol withdraws you know you’re suffering as well as an opportunity for local singers to showcase their talents whilst competing for a $3,500 contract with the Cincinnati Opera. Auditions begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Cincinnati Music Hall. Rules and restrictions apply so check them out here online and note, these auditions are unaccompanied and video recorded. Be sure to get your bass there early because auditions are on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Inspiring Voices

Muse is more than the goddess of art on Mt. Olympus, it’s also Cincinnati’s own woman’s choir. MUSE Women’s Choir hosts their 26th annual spring concert, Gracias a La Vida: We Live We Learn, this Saturday and Sunday at New Thought Trinity Church in Clifton. Straight off the choir’s trip to the Dominican Republic, MUSE’s concert will feature selections that have a Latin flair including folk music and dance from the Caribbean. This year’s theme, “Gracias a La Vida,” aims to inspire the celebration and honoring of life. Tickets range from $8-$50 based on a sliding scale for both the Saturday 8 p.m. performance and Sunday 3 p.m. performance. Click here for tickets.
