Cincinnati is an old city and for many of the urban residents who fall in love with an aging Federal, Greek Revival or Victorian home from the city’s late 19th century housing stock, keeping them warm and comfortable becomes a tough task as winter sets in and energy bills skyrocket.  With more Cincinnatians moving back into the urban core, the need to control annual energy costs on rehabbed or remodeled structures, as well as incorporate green practices in building is a top priority.

Enter the Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance (GCEA), a nonprofit that helps Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky homeowners reduce their energy costs, making their homes more comfortable, affordable, and environmentally friendly. This week Soapbox and Seven/Seventy-Nine tag along with GCEA and one of their partners, Greenergy as they perform a whole house energy audit on Soapbox Managing Editor Sean Rhiney’s house.  You’ll get a chance to see the technology utilized during an audit to determine areas that are ripe for remediation to lower your overall energy costs, and learn how you can request an audit for your home too.
