Ohio ranked 4th in biotech strength

Business Facilities Magazine has ranked Ohio fourth among all states in overall biotechnology strength in a recently released report.

The 2008 Biotechnology Strength Report factors in state research and development funding and venture capital investment, occupational employment in biotech, bioscience-targeted tax exemptions, number of biotech facilities, patents generated, university grant funding, and bioscience higher education degrees.

The most recent BioOhio Ohio Bioscience Growth Report, issued in December 2007, counts 818 bioscience-related organizations operating in the state, with 195 located in southwest Ohio.

Finishing first in Business Facilities' rankings was Pennsylvania, followed by California, Massachusetts, and Texas - which tied Ohio for fourth.
