Xavier launches two new entrepreneurship initiatives

Two new initiatives should further Xavier University’s reputation as center of entrepreneurship education. One is Ohio’s only statewide college entrepreneurship conference and competition. It'll be held Oct. 23-24 at the Cintas Center on campus and sponsored by Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray. The university is also launching the Xavier Black Belt Entrepreneurship Certificate program. The first of its kind in the nation, the Black Belt program is for both undergraduate students and those in the business community.  It offers yellow, green, blue and black belts, allowing students to continue to learn and improve their skills. Just as in a traditional martial arts program, students will be tested in front of experts and must pass before moving on to study at the next level.

It's those kind of programs that keep Xavier ranked as one of the top schools for undergraduate entrepreneurship programs in the country. Xavier is ranked 24th in a survey of more than 2,300 schools just released by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine. This is the fifth year in a row Xavier's has been recognized among the top schools in the nation.

The University of Cincinnati's Center for Entrepreneurship Education and Research also made the list, ranking 21st.  The survey found that 75 percent of UC's entrepreneurship faculty have been entrepreneurs themselves and noted its two mentorship programs.  Miami University's Institute of Entrepreneurship also was ranked, at No. 16, with the survey finding that 100 percent of its faculty have themselves been entrepreneurs.
