P&G, Macy's, Toyota make Diversity Top 50 list

Three major corporations based in Greater Cincinnati made DiversityInc.'s annual Top 50 for Diversity list, a compilation of companies that demonstrate a commitment to diversity. Procter & Gamble ranked fifth, with the publication citing its "strong mentoring program, with training and follow-up, with 55 percent of all managers participating." It also praised P&G's measuring of its multicultural advertising and its frequent surveys on diversity issues.

Macy's Inc. ranked 39th, as the publication said its "management is 30 percent black, Latino, Asian or Native American, compared with a national average of 15 percent and a Top 50 average of 25 percent."

Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, based in Erlanger, Ky., ranked 48th, as DiversityInc. says it "spends 6.5 percent of its Tier I (direct contractor) procurement with black, Asian, Latino and Native American suppliers, compared with an average of 5 percent for the Top 50."

Companies that earn spots on the Diversity list demonstrate consistent strength in the four areas the survey measures: CEO commitment, human capital, corporate and organizational communications, and supplier diversity.
