Vertus Technologies will build clean coal project on Cincinnati's riverfront

Clean coal should be on its way to the region's industries by the end of the year. That's when Vertus Technologies Ltd. expects to be shipping cleaner, processed coal from a new plant it will build at Cincinnati Bulk Terminals' riverfront facility. It will be the UK-based company's first U.S. production site, and will be capable of producing 100,000 tons of low-sulphur, low-mercury coal a year. In coming years, the amount of clean coal it ships is expected to grow, as both companies say they expect more units to be installed to meet a growing demand for fuels that comply with stricter air-quality rules. "This relationship creates a significant opportunity for both companies in the production and distribution of low-emission, high-quality, compliant coal," says Dr. Kenneth Hughes, president of Vertus Technologies.
