CFM International, a major part of Cincinnati's aerospace industry, experienced a record year in 2007, chalking up about $18 billion worth of orders. That's more than 2,700 engines for commercial and military jets. And that means work for Cincinnati-based CFM, a joint venture between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) of France and Cincinnati-based GE Aviation that makes jet engines for Boeing and many other aircraft makers. In 2007, orders also came in from aircraft
makers as diverse as Air China, Dubai Aerospace and Skybus.
CFM employees also set a record for actually producing engines in 2007. "There is a CFM56 engine coming off the production line every four hours," says Eric Bachelet, president and CEO of CFM International. Anyone who's ever flown on a Boeing 737 or Airbus jet has probably had their trip powered by a CFM engine. CFM anticipates even higher production rates in the coming three
years.
