General Data's new StainerShield XT defends bar codes and slides from the extremes of the lab

Thanks to General Data's (GD) new StainerShield XT, scientists and doctors need not fear the wrath of the lab.

GD's newest addition to its StainerShield line of products protects bar codes and tracking slides from the most extreme of lab conditions:  heat, chemical exposure, reagents and stains that come with prepping tissue samples.

"We are using the USCAP event as the vehicle for the formal product roll-out and announcement," says GD's Vice President of Marketing Ralph Moher. 

In addition to formally unveiling their StainerShield XT line, GD also displayed the recently launched ID/Positive CL-01 Laser Cassette Marker at the 2009 United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology Conference.

"I expect a great response to these new products, as they directly address what labs are telling us they need," Moher says.  These needs include "the ability to positively identify specimens on-demand, as part of an overall lean workflow process."

No matter the protocol – special stains, cytopathology and all manner of chemical contact – StainerShield XT can take it. 

Before putting specimens through advanced protocols, StainerShield XT enables lab techs to identify slides via bar code at the microtome station.

With the use of a standard thermal desktop thermal printer, StainerShield XT uses a specialized label and thermal printer ribbon that are made to withstand extreme conditions.  The end result allows technicians to scan a slide's bar code to ensure they're working with the right specimen.

Ultimately, the StainerShield XT is symbolic of the vibrancy and resilience of local health research, despite economic pressure.

"Even in current economic conditions, the healthcare field is continuing to grow and innovate," Moher says.  "Cincinnati companies that are involved in healthcare innovation…will continue to grow and contribute to the economic vitality of the region."
