The
University of Cincinnati has announced a staggering goal: raise $1 billion dollars by June 30, 2013.
Proudly Cincinnati: Tower of Strength, Rock of Truth, is the largest fund-raising effort in UC’s history. On October 25, in UC’s Fifth Third Bank Arena, university President Nancy Zimpher unveiled this new goal, after ambitious university leaders upped the ante from the original target of $800 million.
Although this higher figure has not yet been approved by UC’s Board of Trustees, if it’s given the green light, university leaders plan to pour the potential onslaught of funding into student scholarships, excellence in research and teaching, and further experiential learning opportunities for students.
Proudly Cincinnati has already collected $454 million since it quietly began spreading the word behind the scenes on July 1, 2005. $196 million was raised during the last year alone – UC’s largest annual giving to date.
Of the final sum, university leaders plan to dole out more than $200 million for scholarships and financial aid, alongside robust sums for health-related research, a new building for the College of Law, and funding for numerous other projects and programs.
