London. Milan. New York. Hong Kong. Cincinnati. What do all of these cities have in common?
They've all been named among the design elite in BusinessWeek's recent special report
on the world's top design schools. The report named the University of
Cincinnati’s Master's in Design as one of the best programs across the
globe.
The Master's is part of the university's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning,
or DAAP. Describing why it made the cut, BusinessWeek said: "With
mandatory classes in strategy and research methods, students can also
take electives in science, engineering, business, and anthropology.
They also participate in the Live Well Collaborative, which operates in
the university's Center for Design, Research & Innovation, to do
research and corporate projects that focus on the needs of America's
aging population."
Among the other design programs named to the list were New York
City's School of Visual Arts' MFA Designer As Author, London's Royal
College of Art/Imperial College London Dual degree Innovation Design
Engineering, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s Master's in Design
(Design Strategies).
"The graduate program in design is continuing to expand its
global network of schools and companies and is also working on
interdisciplinary research initiatives with other disciplines at UC.
This is in combination with the strong design and corporate brand
culture in the city of Cincinnati, which gives the program a unique
context for maintaining a vital dialogue with emerging issues in
practice," said Craig Vogel, professor of design and director of the
Center for Design Research and Innovation at UC.
