Screen Test Film Project: Covington's first film festival fires up

Covington's small, but growing, film community is coming out with its first-ever film festival. The Screen Test Film Project’s goal is to bring Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati filmmakers and artists together to showcase films that tell Covington's story.

So how do you tell the story of Covington? Well, there isn’t just one story, but many. There are the historic neighborhoods, public spaces, architectural gems and the bar and art scene. Artists can submit new or previously made films by Oct. 15.

The festival is part of the City’s month-long Full Spectrum multi-discipline arts celebration.

Local media companies Barking Fish Lounge and Big Fat Brain are hosting the event. And a seed film "messages" has been created to inspire other filmmakers.

"The Screen Test Project was created to gather the talent in our community together through film with a community arts component. In addition to adding a little extra flavor to Full Spectrum," said Matt Bledsoe, co-owner of Big Fat Brain, along with Troy Hitch.

The festival will be from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Carnegie Arts Center, 1028 Scott St., in Covington.

"Filmmaking is the next step in the growth of this arts community. Screen Test wants to put Covington regionally and nationally on the map as a film community," Bledsoe said.
