Cincinnati-area General Data Company, Inc, has launched a new product using mobile technology in the national fight against potential H1N1 flu outbreak.
The company is doing this with the E.V-Trax Employee Vaccination Tracking System can be used to track to track H1N1 and other vaccinations for those on the front lines of healthcare, hospital and healthcare workers.
The tracking system rids hospitals of the old-school paper forms that track these vaccinations, instead keeping an electronic record of all immunizations given to healthcare personnel. This can make record keeping more efficient and easier to access and update. It can prove most handy during an emergency flu outbreak in a section of a hospital, where vaccination information could be quickly accessed to reallocate personnel, and avoiding mass quarantine.
“As hospitals and healthcare facilities gear up for H1N1 and flu season, this is an automated solution that can be installed with almost no interruption to the caregiving process,” said General
Data Founder and President Peter Wenzel. “Healthcare providers will be able to know who’s been vaccinated and when, and they’ll be able to better utilize those personnel with no disruption to patient care, time, or cost.” General Data, in Union Township, specializes in barcode-based error-proofing and tracking system solutions.
The vaccine information is gathered and stored in a small handheld computer, similar to handheld scanners at a supermarket. It’s equipped with a barcode scanner, magnetic stripe reader, and special software to collect and to manage employee immunization information. A small screen displays the information, which is uploaded from the small computer into a central database.
The tracking system is currently being used at a major teaching hospital, which has requested anonymity, according to General Data. But the company expects the product will be picked up soon by many more facilities.
