CVG looks to business community to connect through social media

The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is looking to the region’s business leaders for ideas on how to best use the burgeoning social media world to promote CVG to the public. “There are a lot of changes going on. People want to know what’s happening at CVG, what’s going to happen to the hub? We want to get our message out to the local community in a new way,” said Barb Schempf, CVG Government Affairs Manager. “And we want to hear about how we can use some of these tools to give people immediate information.” CVG, together with the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, are hosting a half-day workshop Gain Flight with Public Relations and Social Media, delving into this technology, and how the airport can best reach the public with sites like Facebook and Twitter. The workshop will also offer participants networking opportunities and social media tips. Event speakers include said John Mok, CVG Chief Executive Officer, along with Chris Cole, director of media relations and communications at Northern Kentucky University and Dave Hatter, principal with Libertas Technologies. “We are excited to tap into the local social media expertise to learn how to successfully use these new communication tools to reach CVG’s broad audience base,” said Mok. CVG has set up Facebook and Twitter pages, but they are passive. The airport is working to make them more engaging, Schempf said. The workshop costs $25 for Northern Kentucky Chamber members and $35 for non-members. The price includes a thumb drive of resource materials, continental breakfast, beverages and snacks.
