The Covington Center for Great Neighborhoods has a new tool in its arsenal, promoting new and rehabbed housing in the city’s urban core.
CovingtonLiving.com launched within the last month to showcase the non-profit’s housing efforts. The center builds and rehabs affordable and market rate housing in two areas of Covington, the Austinburg neighborhood and the Arts District on the west side of town.
“We have a couple of pages that show past and current projects, and a place where you can get a little information on the Austinburg and Arts District areas,” said Rachel Hastings, director of center’s Neighborhood and Housing Initiative.
The Center for Great Neighborhoods works with the City of Covington, and other area agencies to provide quality, mixed-income, energy efficient housing in the heart of Covington. The center believes in the importance of diverse and vibrant neighborhoods.
“Folks from Covington know about our housing stock and neighborhoods, but a lot people from outside Covington don’t know about them. If they’re thinking about these neighborhoods, this site gives them a little information about their character,” Hastings said.
The Center has rehabbed historic homes on Lee, Garret, West Robbins, and W. 17th Street over the past 15 years. You can see the work here.
Among the current projects underway is LEED certification for one of its newest homes under construction.
“We feel it’s important to have as much affordable, nice and and eco friendly housing as possible. All the homes should be nice, you shouldn’t be able to walk down the street and say “That’s affordable housing, and that’s market rates housing,” Hastings said.
