Freeman Schwabe Machinery joins sustainable energy sector, will double company employment

Freeman Schwabe Machinery in Union Township soon will add 15 to 20 high tech jobs to the Greater Cincinnati region with its new focus on the sustainable energy sector.

The Clermont County company, which specializes in manufacturing and distributing die cutting presses, cutting machines and automatic cutting systems, has leveraged that expertise into offering new products in the wind and solar energy sectors.

The company manufactures die cutting presses for auto interiors, among other things, but is diversifying in keeping with the country’s changing economy. Freeman Schwabe now is offering cutting machines for rotor blades and other wind turbine parts, and a turnkey system for solar module manufacturing, that includes machine installation and operator training.

“With all the focus on renewable and alternative energy, we assigned a person full-time to research this. We found a piece of equipment that we had that is ideal for improving the speed an acuity of wind turbine blade assembly,” said company President and CEO Greg DeFisher.

The company decided to go this route in part because of the state’s commitment to fostering the development of alternative energy sources. A law recently enacted in Ohio law mandates that at least 25 percent of all electricity come from alternative energy resources, including solar and wind energy by 2025.

The company plans on selling equipment and eventually producing its own solar panels, DeFisher said.
