A former student of Mt. Auburn’s Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences is giving a $500,000 donation to support the college’s scholarship fund. It’s the largest single donation the college has ever received.
Shirley Snow, a 1937 alumnae of what was then the Christ School of Nursing, announced the donation on May 5 - her 95th birthday. The gift will support the Charles and Shirley Snow Endowed Scholarship Fund. It provides financial assistance to full-time, second year students who have a grade point average of at least 3.2 and who are in need.
In appreciation, the college will rename its main entrance as the Charles and Shirley Snow Lobby.
“This gift will not only have an impact on the college and our students, but it will also benefit the community as we educate future nurses to provide the highest quality in health care,” said Teresa Goodwin, R.N., President of the Christ College of Nursing. “Mrs. Snow’s generosity is inspiring and will help ensure that new generations can follow in her footsteps as both nurses and community leaders.”
The Christ College of Nursing and Health Science opened in 1902 to award nursing degrees. In 2006 it also began awarding associate degrees and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of College and Schools.
The 555-bed, non-profit hospital offers services in cardiovascular care, spine treatment, women’s health, major surgery, cancer, behavioral medicine, orthopedics, emergency care, kidney transplant and others. The hospital also offers the Christ Hospital Medical Associates, a primary care physician practice with several office locations throughout Greater Cincinnati.
