Previously, Sydney worked as a newspaper reporter including Cincinnati Enquirer, Newark Advocate and Harrison Press. Miyah Byrd is a storyteller and advocate based in Ohio. Her work has been featured in KIIONA Magazine, Forge, Human Parts, and ThriveGlobal. She is a former educator whose interests include food insecurity, green energy, and the self-sufficiency of the Black community.  

Nancy Daly

Nancy Daly was a veteran Kentucky and Cincinnati journalist. An "Army brat" who found a home in Kentucky earning a journalism degree from the University of Kentucky. Her hobbies included reading, photography, watching streaming TV, including "Succession" and "Andor," and playing Alphabet Game on Zoom with five siblings across the globe. Nancy died unexpectedly on October 21, 2024, at the age of 70 after enduring a difficult medical journey over her last year.

Alex Ralph

Alex Ralph is a lecturer at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, where he teaches expository writing and courses on storytelling through public policy. He is at work on a novel set in 1970s Detroit and is also the editor of the Corruption in Fragile States Blog. In addition to two previous stories for Soapbox, he has written for the Cincinnati Enquirer about Hamilton County's mental health felony court and how one elementary school used in-house assessments to accelerate student learning.

Kate Harold

Kate Harold is a freelance writer who lives in Oakley with her husband and three kids. If she’s not writing or mom-ing, you’ll probably find her reading, working on home projects, volunteering, or spending time outdoors.
