Kroger’s latest innovation will greatly reduce food waste

In continuing their work to end hunger and keep produce out of landfills, the company launched Apeel produce coast to coast.

This extra layer creates a microclimate that slows down the rate of water loss and oxidation, thus keeping more food out of landfills.

Last week, Kroger piloted Apeel avocados, which quickly turned into a national campaign across all 1,100 stores, and there are plans to incorporate other produce as well, which will not only reduce food waste but also save water, reduce emissions, and preserve farmland.
