Chick Flick
June 9 & 10
If you’re a fan of The Real Housewives of Orange County, then you’ll love the latest Cincinnati World Cinema Film which tells the story of five real-women artists, and their biggest problem isn’t which Prada bag goes with her new Jimmy Choos. Screening this Tuesday and Wednesday night only at The Carnegie Center for the Visual & Performing Arts is, Who Does She Think She Is? This documentary by writer/filmmaker and mother of three, Pamela Boll, tells the story of five women from across the globe who’ve persevered in the balancing-act of life: parenting and work, partnering and independence, economics and art. Then after the film, meet some “real housewives of Cincinnati,” who will discuss their own balancing acts between their passion for art and love of their family. Show starts at 7:00 p.m. both nights and tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Click here for tickets.

Food for the Soul
June 11
There are moments in life that just touch our souls and Mixx Ultra Lounge is making every attempt to create those moments. Beginning this Thursday night, and each Thursday thereafter through June 25th, Soulful Gardens will take over the Lounge. Imagine live bands and DJs playing soft Hip Hop and Neo-Soul music while local, regional and national performers entertain with spoken word/improv, poetry and visual art. Performances begin at 9:00 p.m., so don’t be late for your helping of soul food.

Fractured Art
June 12
You may look at a chipped piece of tile and see sharp edges you’d like to avoid slicing your finger on, but for artist Jessie Ring, she sees the potential for a work of art. Come see how a broken piece of tile can become a beautiful mosaic work this Friday evening as NVision unveils Ring Mosaics. Jessie Ring’s mosaics explore both representational and abstract imagery, in the form of not only wall art, but trays, mirror frames, and coasters as well. Reception is from 6:00-10:00 p.m. and includes refreshments and music by DJ MCMLXXII-bonus points if you know what number that is.

Squealin’ Good Time
June 13 & 14
A wise cat once said, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Dr. Seuss was certainly onto something with that tongue twister.  Join the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Cincinnati this weekend for Squealin’ with Pride in ’09-a two-day celebration who you are with the people you love. The festivities include the GLBT Pride Festival on Saturday and Sunday at Jacob Hoffner Park in Northside as well as the festival’s crowning jewel, the Pride Parade, on Sunday afternoon. Saturday be entertained by illusionist Quasi, comedian Jason Stuart and music by Frederic Ford, Black Mondays and GLBT Jazz Band. Then on Sunday, Pride gets a little more family-friendly as the Cincinnati Men’s Chorus, MUSE, and Voices of Freedom all perform. Click here for more details.
