Oscar-nominee Hal Holbrook returns the stage for a one night only performance of his one-man show, Mark Twain Tonight. This Tony Award winning show has more than 16 hours-you only have to sit through about 2-worth of infamous witticisms and everything else that is Twain. In his 55th year as Twain, Holbrook has continuously evolved his act into an unforgettable celebration of Twain’s unique outlook on everything from politics to love. You absolutely cannot miss this chance to see Holbrook re-create the essence of the man who brought us Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. Sometimes a little absurdity and eccentricity is all you need to stay sane. Works by Dada and the later Surrealists will be on display at the Cincinnati Art Museum this Friday for Surreal Escape: A Night of Absurd Reality. Come get lost in the obscurities of life and art while enjoying Surrealist-inspired dances and fashion show, live music from the Seedy Seeds, hors d’oeurves and the specialty Surreal Escape Cocktail from the cash bar. Ok so it may not be the Academy Awards with their fancy little nude statues, but the Cincinnati Acclaim Awards is still an evening of glamour and prestige to celebrate the best of Cincinnati Theater for the 2008-09 season. The Cincinnati Art Association will host the annual awards ceremony at the Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Acclaims will not only recognize achievements of the past season but preview the 2009-10 season and local Broadway veteran Pam Myers will be in attendance as a presenter. The cost of attendance is $25 which includes the after-party featuring delicious Double-D cupcakes, cash bar and entertainment. If you’re looking to go a little more “red carpet,” for $100 event hosts will nibble on by-the-bite appetizers from Booty’s, JeanRo, Via Vite and more at the 6:30 reception. Click here for more.
