Remember the days of glow bowl at the bowling alley? Every piece of lint on your shirt stood out, and your teeth looked like tanning bed bulbs. Celebrated Cincinnati painter, Tom Bacher, took the concept of glow bowl to a whole new level by creating works of art that actually do glow in the dark. The Weston Art Gallery has works from Bacher’s last ten years on display in Luminous, an exhibit which is truly standout. By inventing the process of combining phosphorescent pigments with acrylic medium, Bacher creates paintings that not only glow in the dark but as time goes on and with the addition of light, the paintings take on new forms. e Young Professional and the weekly online guide will host an event this Wednesday evening at the gallery. Come enjoy appetizers and mingling among the glowing paintings, some of which portray the skylines of New York, Las Vegas and of course, Cincinnati. The exhibit exits the gallery on March 22 so this is a great opportunity to see the paintings before they’re gone. 

The Stage is Set

Tune in this Thursday night at 10 p.m. for the premiere of Taking The Stage, a show starring five amazingly-gifted students from our very own School for Creative and Performing Arts. Watch as camera crews follow Jasmine, Malik, Shaakira, Mia and Tyler-all of who have big dreams-as they face all the obstacles of a normal teenager along with the pressures of becoming a top notch performer. Do they have what it takes to make their dreams come true? Tune in and see as Cincinnati to shows the rest of the world we’ve got  America’s next generation of talent right here in the Queen City; take that Juilliard. Taking The Stage can be seen every Thursday at 10 p.m. on MTV.

Get Bent

Sometimes it’s good to have a little drama in your life and New Stage Collective has all the drama you need this week with Bent. Martin Sherman’s monumental 1979 play tells the tale of Max, a man whose journey in life takes him from cabarets and clubs in 1930’s Berlin to an oppressive regime. There’s a little love thrown in as well when Max falls for a fellow prisoner. Bent has been performed in over 50 countries and over 21 languages, something that speaks to play’s universal influence.  So get out and get Bent this weekend. Already have weekend plans? Dancers without Boundaries
March 20-21The Contemporary Dance Theater is honored to have unrivaled guest artist, Gesel Mason, bring her solo dance project , No Boundaries: Dancing the Visions of Contemporary Black Choreographers to their stage this Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Nearly seven generations of leading black choreographers collaborated on this project which portrays the “diversity of style and vision in the field of modern dance.” Among the choreographers are Bebe Miller, Donald McKayle, Reggie Wilson, Andrea Woods, David Roussève, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and of course, Mason herself. Video clips of these dancers accompany the choreography and help to tell the story as well as enhance the overall experience. This is one dance you don’t want to sit out on.
