Exploring the outdoors can build confidence, reduce stress and calm anxiety in kids [VIDEO]

It's a quote often attributed to Winston Churchill, sometimes to Ronald Reagan: “There’s something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.” Whoever said it first, the meaning is clear. Caring for a horse fosters patience, gentleness, peace and self-control -- not only for men, but for women, boys and girls.

Especially for kids, caring for and riding horses, and simply playing and exploring the outdoors, can bring relief from stress, manage symptoms of depression and anxiety, improve communication skills, build trust, and help them learn how to regulate their emotions. All essential qualities as the community addresses a mental health crisis among its youth.

Soapbox Media visited Greenacres Equine Center for the Adventure Crew's Explorer Program, part of Soapbox's Amplifying Youth Voices series. The video was produced by Fourthwall Youth Studios, Cincinnati.
