Carol Ann's Carousel opens on riverfront May 16

May 16 marked opening day for one of Smale Riverfront Park's new signature features, Carol Ann's Carousel.

Named for Carol Ann Haile, who along with her husband Ralph established the Haile Foundation at US Bank, the new downtown entertainment attraction was built inside a glass pavilion at the foot of Vine Street between the Ohio River and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. The carousel will operate year-round and features 44 riding animals and characters in three rows.

Cincinnati Parks and the Haile Foundation have released a video (produced by Over-the-Rhine-based Agar) showing the final construction and installation work at the pavilion ahead of the May 16 opening. The riding figures represent Greater Cincinnati life, history and culture, including aspects of river life, sports, Cincinnati cuisine, iconic places, transportation, history, business, the arts, the seasons and folklore.
