Uptown Consortium moving on $100 million Avondale redevelopment

Preparation work for construction pilings is under way along Burnet Avenue for the first phase of Uptown Consortium’s $100 million Avondale redevelopment.

The project’s first phase, designed by DNK Architects, will include a 100,000-square-foot office building for Children’s Hospital Medical Center, a 45,000-square-foot office building for the Cincinnati Herald, ground-floor retail space and a shared parking garage.

When these buildings are completed by the end of this year, work will begin on Harvey Commons, a development of 60 affordable, owner-occupied townhomes along Harvey Avenue, extending northward from its intersection with Erkenbrecher.

Planning for the townhome phase is currently being conducted by the Model Group, and units are expected to be priced between $155,000 and $255,000.

The Uptown Consortium is also working with the Avondale Community Council on the “Gateway Center”, a small business incubator designed to help low-income residents create localized jobs through new business startups.

Jenny Irey of Wordsworth Communications, who handles public relations for the Uptown Consortium, says that Avondale’s location is well-suited to tap in to Uptown’s more than $3 billion annual economic impact.

“As the largest neighborhood in Uptown, Avondale is perfectly positioned to benefit from area’s growth,” Irey said.  “Its future is envisioned as a combination of a thriving, Afro-centric business district and a strong, diverse residential neighborhood.”
