Some may think the only thing to come out of Russia is Communism and Maria Sharapova, but the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), is reminding of us of an old-Russian gem named Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Their fall concert series will pay tribute to the legendary composer and feature the winner of the CCM Violin Concerto Competitionso. Come let your ears be captivated by the final duet from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Op. 23, the 1812 Overture and much more. There will be pre-concert talks with Breighan Brown. Don’t Feed the Animals

Man, wildlife and beer become one this Thursday for Zoo Brew, an annual beer tasting event held at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Think a evening of Samuel Adams lagers, brew-masters explaining the “science of beer” and a sneak sampling of beers not yet to hit the taps all encompassed in the scenic “Safari Camp.” Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 the day of; tasting starts at 6:00 pm, includes appetizers and attendees must be 21+. So come take a drink on the wild side!

It's A Bug's Life
October 17

There are billions of insects crawling around at any given time and this Friday they take to the stage at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center where bugs take human form. Tripsichore Yoga Theatre invades the Harriet Tubman Theatre with, THE INSECTS, a piece of yoga theatre, uses asanas and vinyasas movements to speak for a group of insect characters. This dream-like sequence performance features music by world famous pedal steel guitar player BJ Cole and acrobatic agility which will have you wondering if you’re at Barnum and Bailey’s. Contemporary Explosion
October 18th


So who wasn’t impressed with China’s hosting of the 2008 Olympics? I’m fairly certain Lance Armstrong could have seen it from the moon. Well fireworks aren’t the only thing coming out of Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. Now that China has finally opened her doors to global influence there’s been an explosion of contemporary design like none seen before. The Cincinnati Art Museum presents China Design Now, an exhibition of around 100 Chinese designers making explorations in architecture, fashion and graphic design. Exhibit opens Friday and runs through January 11, 2009. Click here for details.
