Collective Nouns

Photography by Scott Beseler

June 26

Our very own Scott Beseler hosts his first solo photography show which includes over 1,000 5"x7" images of Cincinnati on display.  If you have ever run into Scott, then chances are good that you might actually be in this show. Art lovers are encouraged to buy prints directly off the wall which helps to create an artistic piece in and of itself. Come early to see the full display. The event will feature the music and videos of  DJ Mike B.  The show takes place this Final Friday at Creative Gallery on Main Street from 5:30 p.m. until 11.00 p.m.

All In The Family

So you all know of the seductive Italian Don Juan, but there's another Don stealing hearts of European women and his name is Don Carlo. The Cincinnati Opera presents Don Carlo, an opera about love, war and betrayal set in the 16th century during the Spanish Inquisition. Prince Don falls for French beauty Elisabetta whom he's set to marry. Enter Don's daddy who swoops in to steal his son's betrothed. It may sound like something for Jerry Springer, but rest assured, Don Carlo is a classic. Performances are this Thursday and Saturday evening only so get your tickets to Spain now. If you're not in the mood for Dons, come check out the 10 semi-finalists of Opera Idol as they compete for a place in the finals, Wednesday night at the Aronoff. Click here for more information.

Blasting for a Cure
June 27

Explode off the starting line this Saturday for the 9th Annual Hyde Park Blast-a 4 mile walk/run that raises money to aid in the fight against cancer. The Blast begins west of Hyde Park Square, loops through historic neighborhood before finishing up back at the Square. This year's Hyde Park Blast ambassadors-both young cancer survivors-are Jeff Eggleston, of Mt. Lookout and Amy Matalka, of Middletown. A portion of this year's Blast proceeds will be directed towards the ambassador's chosen charities, the Shemenski Foundation and the Wellness Community respectively. It's a full day of fun for runners and cyclists alike. Take time out to sample food at Taste of Hyde Park and be sure to stick around after all the running around has stopped for the Blast Block Party featuring Cincinnati's own Rusty Griswolds. Click here for registration or for further details.

Celebration of Community

June 28

Owner of Milton's Prospect Hill Tavern and resident Falstaff to the neighborhood's thirsty inhabitants, Kevin Feldman is a man of words and a man of passion. In order to celebrate the community he has helped to build another local legend, Ronda Androsky, owner of Arnolds Bar and Grill,  is hosting a fundraiser on Sunday June 28 at The Milt, to help defray the cost of structural improvements needed following a recent robbery. Where others might roll over and give up, Soapbox is happy to see so many hands pitching in to help a friend of Cincinnati. Tickets to the party are $15 and can be purchased at Milton's located at the corner of Milton and Sycamore, North of Liberty. For more information, call 784-9938.
