On The Fringe
June 1-12
That's right boys and girls, it's that time of the year again, time for a tsunami of local, regional, national and international artists to invade downtown Cincinnati for 12 days of artistic celebration in both traditional and non-traditional spaces for the Cincinnati Fringe Festival. For the seventh year in a row, the Cincinnati Fringe Festival is back to challenge your perceptions about what is art. From June 1-12, downtown Cincinnati will become a circus of artists who represent a variety of media including theatre, dance, music, poetry, visual art, film and beyond.
Fringes within Fringe:
• Visual Fringe includes an exhibit at Childlaw Gallery featuring the work of six artists, and a special exhibit by True Body Project, titled SWITCH. Opening reception is June 1 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
• Film Fringe includes 6 films with two screenings of the collection at Media Bridges on Sunday June 6 and Thursday June 10.
• Performance Fringe includes 30 performances at various venues across downtown. Shows occur daily June 2-12.
There are currently three official routes through Fringe that will allow you to see all 30 shows (Pssst all you sports fans out there, Route 1 leaves time for you to catch the World Cup Games). Go Full Frontal Pass and get access to everything Fringe for $200.00 or choose the Voyeur Six Show Pass, and get six shows for the price of five for $60.00. And don't think Fringe is all work and no play. As always, the Fringe Bar Series starts after the shows stop. So head to the Know Theatre's underground to mingle with Fringe artists, volunteers, staff & audience members. Each evening begins around 10:30 and some of this year’s events include, Fringe Prom, Movie-Oke, Fringe Olympics and so much more. If you think you’ve got what it takes to get Fringy with it, click here the full line-up. Read last week's feature on Fringe here.
Fringe-excitement kicks off with an opening party at the Know Theatre on Tuesday June 1.

CliffsNotes Take Stage
June 4-27
Did you know the CliffsNotes' website has an entire section devoted to William Shakespeare called Shakespeare Central? Not really all that surprising if you think back to high school English class where Macbeth, Hamlet, Othello and of course, Romeo and Juliet, were all pretty much required reading. So if you were one of those kids who passed English thanks to the help of the little yellow and black summary booklets, you're going to love the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company's version of Willy cliffsnotes, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). The comedy, which runs through all 37 of Shakespeare's plays in only 97 minutes, is back again by popular demand to top off the sixteenth season. This zany hour and a half performance uses a multitude of props, wigs and ridiculous costumes to portray the collective comedies, histories and tragedies of Shakespeare. The Complete Works will run Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. from June 4-June 27. Tickets are $26.00 for adults, $22.00 for seniors and 20.00 for students; subscribers pay only $16.00. Come have a laugh and bid ado until season seventeen. Click here for tickets.
