Anchors Away
April 6-10
So apparently coeds aren't the only ones who take spring breaks. The Clifton Performance Theater is taking a little spring break of their own but don't fret because the space has been occupied with the Art for Sail Shop. The exhibit by Tom Lohre is both an art show and a sale comprised of video, journals and art reflective of his North Atlantic excursion from Hampton to Baltimore in a 36 foot Pearson sailboat.  There will also be 100 framed oil paintings and drawings for sale, and Tom will be accepting portrait and landscape commissions-scrimshaw and sea paintings will be done during the show. This quirky exhibit will definitely put you in the mood for summer, and maybe even inspire a little boat trip of your own. Art for Sail Shop ships out of the Clifton Performance Theater this Saturday, so make plans to drop in before then.

The Art of War
April 8
"We make war that we may live in peace"-Aristotle. Seventy five years ago America was fighting Hitler in World War II, and Irwin Shaw penned his expressionist drama, Bury the Dead. Viewed as an anti-war play at the time, Bury the Dead tells the story of six fallen soldiers who arise from their graves and refuse to be buried in the trenches where they'd be covered up and forgotten. The dead soldiers talk with loved ones who try to convince them to go to their graves, inciting international intrigue in the process. This timeless tale of human sacrifice is getting a mini makeover as The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Drama have collaborated to bring even more depth to Shaw's eerie and inspiring drama.  Aside from the traditional stage performance, there will be post-show talkbacks with veterans, active-duty soldiers, military professionals, historians, and mental health professionals - all of who took part in the developmental process of the piece - to discuss service to country and the human experience of war. Audiences will also have the opportunity to experience an original video exhibition created by Acclaim Award winning video and sound designer Paul Lieber - the work will feature recitations by CCM actors of WWI trench poetry and letters from the front, as well as images of war and period music. There will be an additional five silent films screening simultaneously on different surfaces around the gallery - the films will show images of soldiers throughout history. This is truly an experience that can't be missed. Bury the Dead opens this Thursday at The Carnegie in Covington, with performances continuing Thursday-Saturday through April 24. Tickets are $18.00 for adults; $16.00 Carnegie and Enjoy The Arts Members; $14 Students and groups of 10 or more.
