DomainIt was founded in Cincinnati in 1996 by Paul Goldstone, who launched one of the first domain name search interfaces and shopping carts. A year later, DomainIt launched Web hosting and e-mail services. In 2000, DomainIt became an accredited registrar and launched its online shopping cart, making the domain registration process automatic and easy for new Web site owners, and allowing them to store names for later use. By that time, the number of competing registrars had grown considerably and the ‘shopping cart’ registration method became an industry standard.
The company has continued to automate its Web features, adding real-time advanced features, spam and virus filters, SSL encryption, and privacy services. It is one of the few domain registrars and hosting companies to give phone and e-mail support. It recently developed a domain name suggestion tool. The company currently has 30,000 domain names registered through it, with a worldwide customer base. Goldstone has been nominated for Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award three years in a row.
