Environmental Quality Management was founded in 1990 by four environmental consultants in the Cincinnati suburb of Forest Park. It has grown to include 10 more offices across the United States and subsidiaries in Chicago, Slovakia and Serbia.

From one employee and one $350,000 project in the company’s first year, Megen Construction has grown to employ 57, posting revenue of more than $40 million. The firm, owned by a native of Nigeria, has been involved in many high-profile Greater Cincinnati projects, including the Fountain Square revitalization, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum and Great American Ball Park.

Multi-Color Corp. is a growing innovator in the product labeling industry, an often-overlooked, but key component of consumer brand design. Cincinnati-based Multi-Color's high-tech labeling processes support more than 330 well-known consumer brands for more than 650 customers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central and South America.  

AtriCure has developed less invasive and less technically challenging technologies for the surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, a heart ailment that afflicts more than 2 million in the U.S. alone. The use of its surgical devices in other surgeries led to record revenue and growth in 2007.

Based in Highland Heights, Kentucky, General Cable Corp. is looking to developing markets overseas for growth. General Cable is one of the largest manufacturers of copper, aluminum and fiber optic wire and cable for the energy, industrial, and communications markets. The firm completed four acquisitions in 2007 designed to bring it into growing international markets.
