Cincinnati may not be known for its bustling filmmaking industry, but that suits
Jason S. Young, CEO and lead director of
JYSproductions, just fine. Based in the Hamilton County Business Center in Norwood, Young's multimedia company has resources like those found in New York or L.A. But Cincinnati offers greater visibility because the field is less crowded, Young says. That "tends to make the people with the talent here in this city push even harder," Young says.
Young has been producing videos for several years and officially launched JYSproductions as a company in 2007. Since then the group has worked on a wide variety of projects, including
music videos,
independent films and even a recent ad campaign for
Brown Mackie College.
A St. Louis native, Young first came to Cincinnati to study at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. His search for speed and realism in his fine art evolved from one artistic medium to another -- first pencils, then airbrush, photography and eventually film production.
Young's nine-person staff includes a film editor, an audio engineer, a special effects artist and a software programmer who manages their secure digital storage and distribution system. "We're always looking for new talent," he says.
Cinematography is about far more than having trained
Steadicam operators, Young says. "It's about the artistic compositions that you're creating with every single shot."
