Carabello Coffee named as one of the best sustainable, hospitable shops in Kentucky

Food & Wine chose the Newport shop for its charitable giving.

In Food & Wine’s most recent survey, The Best Coffee in Every State 2019, they list “Cincinnati-adjacent” Carabello Coffee in Newport as a “tasting note” — an overview of what’s going on in each state — because the owners are “as enthusiastic about giving back to charitable causes as they are about coffee.”

The survey focused on roasters who were able to deliver the whole package, or close to it — spectacular coffees, great retail operations, and passions for hospitality, community, and, better still, complete sustainability.

According to the author, out of the fifty states, roughly half of the picks are either owned or co-owned by women and/or people of color, which is the case with co-owners Justin and Emily Carabello, who started roasting in a garage in 2009 before they became a full-blown business.
