Artists ignite change through a new show at the Contemporary Arts Center

Local artist Calcagno Cullen, who facilitates the community-driven, artist-led space Wave Pool in Camp Washington, has joined with two other women for a participatory art show at the Contemporary Arts Center.

“Archive as Action,” which runs through June 16 and also includes artists Amanda Curreri and Lindsey Whittle, is designed to generate social change through exhibits by not only raising questions through the work, but creating a safe space to hear answers as well.

“To me, that’s my art practice, really this kind of connection-building and facilitating community collaborations,” says Cullen. “So I wanted to figure out a way to make that visible in a museum setting — creating a space where events happen, people gather, co-working [on Thursdays], community asset mapping… just creating a space that can be activated.”
