Recent Acquisitions - American and European Paintings
Presented by Cincinnati Art Galleries at Cincinnati Art Galleries Cincinnati, OH
Cincinnati Art Galleries invites you to view our upcoming exhibition featuring over 100 American and European paintings from the late nineteenth century to the modern era. The exhibition will open Friday, February 13th, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Landscapes, cityscapes and marine scenes are presented alongside still lifes and figurative works. Featured artists include Willard Metcalf, Homer Dodge Martin, Henry Ward Ranger, Alexander Wyant, Edward Moran, Frederick Waugh, Emile Gruppe, Louis Ritman and others. This exceptional collection represents a significant cross-section of American painting from the post-Civil War era through the early twentieth century, showcasing multiple artistic movements including Hudson River School influence, Tonalism, American Impressionism, and early modernism. Marine paintings form a particularly strong component, with outstanding examples by Edward Moran, Frederick Judd Waugh, Richard Hayley Lever, and Robert Salmon that capture America's maritime heritage. American Impressionist highlights include Willard Metcalf's winter landscape pastel, Henry Ward Ranger's versatile watercolors, Louis Ritman's figurative works reflecting his Giverny training, and Emile Gruppe's vibrant New England scenes. Tonalist landscapes by Alexander Wyant, Homer Dodge Martin, and John Francis Murphy provide contemplative counterpoint, while European subjects and bronze sculptures round out the exhibition's scope. Works range from intimate cabinet paintings to substantial canvases at various price points, making the exhibition accessible to beginning collectors while offering museum-quality pieces for established connoisseurs. The collection represents acquisitions from prominent private collections across the United States, and sales will continue through April 3rd, 2026. Fourteen Funerals
Presented by Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Cincinnati, OH
When Sienna receives a cryptic call about the untimely deaths of distant relatives in Blissfield, Indiana, she finds herself unexpectedly tasked with delivering eulogies for family members she’s never met. What begins as a peculiar obligation soon transforms into a journey of self-discovery and unexpected friendship with Millie, the quirky funeral home receptionist. This witty and heartfelt new play explores themes of identity, connection, and the stories we inherit. With sharp dialogue and poignant moments, Fourteen Funerals offers a comedic yet touching look at the ties that bind us, sometimes even after death. This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region's primary source for arts funding.
