Join Ellen as she teaches Low Impact Aerobics to fun and upbeat music. This Low Impact Aerobics class promotes physical fitness and helps increase lifestyle awareness to all ages and fitness levels. Ellen will individually modify to benefit each student based on what fitness level they are at. Tween Drawing and Painting 6 WEEKS : MAY - JUNE

Ages 10 - 14 Thursdays 6:30 - 8:00 pm $80 for non-members / $72 for members Students will be introduced to the basic process of making pictures that not only “look like what you see” but are fresh and expressive. Students will learn to work with light and shadow, color, and simple perspective. Tweens will use traditional drawing and painting materials. At ArtsConnect, we encourage children to explore their creativity independently to foster confidence and original thinking. Kids Yoga : 6 WEEKS : MAY - JUNE

Here’s a fun way for kids to stay in shape and improve their balance, strength, and flexibility. Students will learn different poses and relaxation techniques. Students should bring a mat to each class. Blocks and straps are provided. Kids Yoga is taught by Sandy Terry, an experienced yoga instructor. Sandy will share her love of yoga with kids of all ages and abilities. Kids Yoga is offered on Thursdays, from 4:30 - 5:15 p.m. Classes are held at ArtsConnect Springfield Township Arts Center, 9158 Winton Rd, Building A, behind the fire station. Jared Thorne: 26 Planned Parenthoods

In 2015, there were twenty-six Planned Parenthood clinics in Ohio. Jared Thorne, who had relocated from South Africa to teach at Ohio State University, photographed all of them as a way of introducing himself to the psychological, sociological, and literal landscape of Ohio. Over the course of a year, the artist drove to every community, small and large, that had a clinic. Many photographs were made at first light, the only time that anti-choice protesters, as well as staff and patients, were not present. Alone, he would set up a large-format camera, using 4×5-inch chromogenic film to create his desaturated and depopulated images. Thorne’s formally balanced and exquisitely focused images are designed to read as studies in decontextualization. This type of context camouflage is also part of the portrait of place: Planned Parenthood buildings are not designed to stand out or to make themselves a target. A project that was started a decade ago in part to quietly recognize the essential work of this bedrock of healthcare has, with the reversal of Roe v. Wade, become something else: an act of memory, a monument to a world slipping away faster than we might have reckoned. Since its start in 2015, Thorne’s project has evolved as he now seeks to photograph every remaining Planned Parenthood facility in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Xaviera Simmons: According to the Seasons

Xaviera Simmons, an outspoken critic of a society that still cannot rid itself of systemic racism, engages her sweeping practice of photography, painting, video, sound, sculpture, and installation to explore the construction of landscape, language, and complex histories in the United States and wherever its empire-building influence is felt around the globe. Her black-and-white wood-paneled language installations attempt to engage the viewer in a space beyond the speculation of coded behavior to create a quasi-literary environment that details history, mythology, archival materials, and her own personal collections. Amplifying the scale of repeated text to that of a photograph or painting, Simmons invites us to participate in a collective, problematizing read: how does memory toggle our perception of reality? And, more explicitly, what (or whose) memories are coded into history? In her most recent large-scale projects, poster actions, and installations, she explores the cycle of exploding social violence and simultaneous political apathy that also characterizes debates about white supremacist violence, civil rights, and democracy in America. Intro to Wheel : Thursday EVENING : MAY

Intro to Wheel, teaches participants the basics of throwing clay on a pottery wheel. Students will learn important pottery studio rules and procedures used in all of our pottery classes. Intro to Wheel class is mandatory for those wanting to buy a pottery studio pass to use the studio during open times. Check out more information about pottery studio passes here: https://www.theartsconnect.us/222/Memberships Once students have mastered the basic skills of the wheel they may then move onto our more challenging class, Intermediate Wheel. In this class students will strengthen their pottery skills and learn more advanced techniques. The cost of each pottery class includes all supplies. Supplies provided are: 25 lb white clay, glazes, all the firing needed, and the use of our clay tools. More clay is available for purchase if necessary, although we usually find 25 lbs is enough for one session. Pottery Wheel classes are recommended for ages 15 and older. Beyond the Picturesque: The American Landscape as a Site of Memory, Identity, and Continuity

The Taft Museum of Art proudly welcomes Ayana Ross as the 40th Duncanson Artist-in-Residence with a presentation of seven figural paintings. Known for her emotionally resonant portraiture and narrative storytelling, Ross captures the quiet strength and complexity of Black life, reflecting everyday moments that carry deeper meaning. Often drawing on her own experiences, her work explores intergenerational themes, current events, and cultural conversations shaping our world. Through ornamentation, Ross anchors her work in memory, preservation, and continuity. In this collection of paintings, she employs picturesque landscapes as a decorative motif, offering echoes of American ideals, elevating the subjects within her paintings, and inviting viewers to reflect on the world we have inherited and the one we continue to shape. This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region's primary source for arts funding.
