Elizabeth Hawes: Radical American Fashion April 24–August 2, 2026 Free Admission Read the Press Release Featuring more than 50 garments made between the 1920s and 1960s as well as original sketches and illustrations, Elizabeth Hawes: Radical American Fashion tells the story of one of the women who helped to shape an American identity within fashion design and personal expression. Elizabeth Hawes was a radical designer, author, and social commentator. She operated her own house in New York from 1928–1940, authored nine books on fashion and its function in society, was at one point blacklisted by the FBI for her progressive socio-political views, and importantly, influenced a generation of American designers who followed her. Largely overlooked by scholars for several decades, this is the first major museum exhibition focused on Hawes’ body of work. Hawes is generally regarded as the first visible and vociferous American couturier. She knew the power of publicity and throughout the 1930s her every move seemed newsworthy. Hawes’ approach to clothing design was to delve into the psyche of the client. She felt that clothing was a direct expression of the self, and that style did not have to follow or be dictated by the fashion industry. She forecasted methods of dress that were not realized until the 1960s or later, including gender neutral designs and an approach to manufacturing that made quality garments more widely available outside the realm of the wealthy elite. Treasures From the Attic: 250 Years of Fashion & Furniture

Every chair holds the memory of those who sat in it and every garment bears the imprint of the person who wore it. These ordinary objects quietly document how people lived, worked and expressed themselves. Beginning February 14, 2026, visitors can trace these hidden histories in Treasures From the Attic: 250 Years of Fashion & Furniture, on display at Behringer-Crawford Museum through August 9, 2026. Developed in collaboration with Northern Kentucky University’s Public History Program, the exhibition gives students hands-on museum experience while supporting BCM’s collections, education and exhibition work. “The relationship between these students and the museum is invaluable,” said Dr. Brian Hackett, Associate Professor of History at Northern Kentucky University. “Public history students gain real-world experience in collections care, education and exhibition development, while the museum benefits from the energy and skills of emerging professionals. It’s a partnership that strengthens both institutions and serves the community.” Part of the national America 250 commemoration, Treasures From the Attic invites guests to explore how furniture and fashion can serve as windows into the past. Constructed from regional woods or imported textiles, crafted by hand or guided by machinery, used in parlors, bedrooms, factories or fields, these everyday objects reveal innovation, craftsmanship, resilience and changing cultural values across two and a half centuries. Sandy teaches how to move the body through yoga postures and shapes with focused attention on the breath. Ages 15 & older, 6-week sessions $165 for non-members/ $150 for members All Supplies Included Thursdays, 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. ArtsConnect offers pottery wheel classes for all levels: Intro, Intermediate and Advanced. Start with the Intro and progressively get better! Intro to Wheel, teaches participants the basics of throwing clay on a pottery wheel. Students will learn important pottery studio rules and procedures used in all of our pottery classes. Intro to Wheel class is mandatory for those wanting to buy a pottery studio pass to use the studio during open times. This class will help students refine their centering skills, learn to throw larger items and work on attachments such as handles and lids. Materials Included: 25 lb clay, glaze, firing and use of tools. Intermediate to Wheel is offered twice a week, Monday mornings and Thursday evenings. Once students have mastered the basic skills of the wheel then move to our Advanced Wheel class. The Advanced Wheel class offers more challenging and advanced techniques. Participants must be proficient in centering, have taken Intermediate Wheel or have instructor recommendation. The cost of each pottery class includes all supplies. Supplies provided are: 25 lb white clay, glazes, all the firing needed, and the use of our clay tools. Tween Drawing and Painting 6 WEEKS : MAY - JUNE

Ages 10 - 14 Thursdays 6:30 - 8:00 pm $80 for non-members / $72 for members Students will be introduced to the basic process of making pictures that not only “look like what you see” but are fresh and expressive. Students will learn to work with light and shadow, color, and simple perspective. Tweens will use traditional drawing and painting materials. At ArtsConnect, we encourage children to explore their creativity independently to foster confidence and original thinking. While we ask that you sign your child in to class, to help your child gain the most from their class experience we kindly request that parents refrain from staying in the classroom.
