The Complete Works of Jane Austen (Abridged)
Presented by Cincinnati Shakespeare Company at The Otto M. Budig Theater Cincinnati, OH
Pride, prejudice, persuasion, and plenty of proposals collide in a theatrical tour of Austen’s greatest moments, served up with satire and silliness all before the tea has gone cold. With punchlines flying faster than a change of heart at a country ball, this affectionate parody condenses courtships, catastrophes, and carefully composed letters into a single, sparkling spectacle. Devoted fans will catch every clever nod, while newcomers can enjoy the romance, rivalry, and Regency ridiculousness without the multi-volume commitment. This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region's primary source for arts funding. "WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE FREE" - A Solo Exhibition by Ciara LeRoy
Presented by Harriet Beecher Stowe House at Harriet Beecher Stowe House Cincinnati, OH
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE FREE? is a solo exhibition by text-based artist Ciara LeRoy and explores themes of censorship, personal & collective accountability, and freedom. Just what does it mean to be free as fascist ideals re-emerge around the world, convenience & efficiency become more important than community, and once thought unquestionable rights (freedom of speech, bodily autonomy, etc.) are eroded? Are you really free or have you just gotten used to or made peace with your particular level of captivity? What does it mean to free yourself and those around you? WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE FREE? presents visitors with a series of statements, questions, and calls to action in the form of hand-embroidered “secret” messages on vintage & secondhand textiles. Dates of exhibition: April 23, 2026 - September 6, 2026 Venue: The Harriet Beecher Stowe House - 2950 Gilbert Ave., Cincinnati OH 45206 Museum Hours: Thursday - Saturday, 10am-4pm This calendar listing is brought to you by Cincy A&E, the Cincinnati region's one-stop, online calendar for arts and entertainment events, powered by ArtsWave.

Gallery jENSEITS - Introducing: David Kohl's What It Feels Like
Presented by Gallery jENSEITS at Gallery jENSEITS Cincinnati, OH
The exhibition What It Feels Like brings together a selection of works by David Kohl, inviting viewers to engage with paintings that are at once deeply personal and universally familiar. Working primarily in acrylic, pastel, chalk, and mixed media on canvas and paper, Kohl paints what he describes as “the emotions and distortions in life.” His subjects are drawn from ordinary experience, from a lecture at a community center, people waiting at a bus stop, workers at a coal mine, moments of quiet vulnerability, perseverance, uncertainty, and hope. These are not simply illustrations of everyday life; they are emotional interpretations of the human experience. Between 2003 and 2023, life presented unexpected challenges that led Kohl to concentrate on family while working largely within the confines of his home and studio. During this deeply personal period, he produced a remarkable body of work that reflects resilience, compassion, and careful observation. The paintings created during these years reveal an artist less interested in documenting appearances than in expressing what life feels like beneath the surface. Whether depicting the quiet tension of Stressed, the dignity of Miner - S.E. Ohio, or the profound empathy suggested in People Want to Help a Person That’s Drowning in Life, Kohl reminds us that the most meaningful works of art are those that resonate emotionally long after we have left the gallery. As he has often said, “Education, shows, awards mean little if a person doesn’t have an emotional attachment to the artwork.” This calendar listing is brought to you by…

Yayoi Kusama: All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins (2016) features an array of yellow gourds of various sizes, adorned with black polka dots, that are surrounded by mirrors. The result is an immersive installation that allows the visitor to become part of the artwork as they seemingly enter an infinite field of glowing pumpkins. All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins illustrates Kusama’s characteristic themes, including infinity, the sublime, and obsessive repetition. The artist has described the pumpkin—one of her quintessential symbols—as a form of self-portraiture. A rare assemblage of a dozen Pumpkin acrylic paintings on canvas made between 1990-2004 will also greet gallery visitors, courtesy of the Masterworks Foundation. Kusama’s career spans more than seven decades, and her Infinity Mirror Rooms are some of her most experimental and iconic works, often incorporating a variety of illuminated objects. Infinity Mirror Room—Phalli’s Field (1965) was Kusama’s first installation to use mirrors to create a sense of endless space, featuring a floor covered in hundreds of red-spotted, white…
