Mariemont Players Inc. Presents: Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring
Presented by Mariemont Players, Inc. at Mariemont Players Inc Cincinnati , OH
Kick off our landmark 90th season with Joseph Kesselring's beloved dark comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace! This classic farce follows the charmingly eccentric Brewster family, whose sweet hospitality hides a shockingly deadly secret. When drama critic Mortimer Brewster uncovers the truth about his beloved aunts, utter chaos ensues. Add in a delusional brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, a menacing criminal lookalike, and a deeply confused plastic surgeon, and hilarity quickly erupts. Doors slam, misunderstandings multiply at a dizzying pace, and the mayhem escalates into a masterclass in comic timing and theatrical absurdity. Fast-paced, delightfully macabre, and packed with a perfect blend of wit, romance, and outrageous comedy, this timeless favorite never loses its bite. Join us for a night of unforgettable laughs as we celebrate 90 years of theatrical tradition! This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region’s primary source for arts funding. Gladys Knight
Presented by Taft Theatre at Taft Theatre Cincinnati, OH
The Empress of Soul Gladys Knight announced her return to Cincinnati, OH for a performance at Taft Theatre on Friday, September 11. ABOUT GLADYS KNIGHT The great ones endure, and Gladys Knight has long been one of the greatest. Very few singers over the last sixty years have matched her unassailable artistry. This seven-time GRAMMY Award winner has enjoyed #1 hits in Pop, Gospel, R&B, and Adult Contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television, and live performance. All told, Knight has recorded more than 38 albums over the years, including four solo albums: “Good Woman” (1991); “Just for You” (1994); the inspirational “Many Different Roads” (1999); and “At Last” (2001). “At Last” showed the world that she still has what it takes to record a hit album, employing the talents of contemporary producers like Randy Jackson. Knight has continued to spread her acting wings, making a guest star appearance in the FOX hit show “Star” and appearing in the film “Almost Christmas” in 2016, both which were produced and directed by Lee Daniels. She appeared on ABC’s 14th season of “Dancing With The Stars” in 2012. In 2019, she competed on the inaugural season of “The Masked Singer” and sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. Knight sang the National Anthem on yet another major sports stage at the 2021 NBA All-Star Game. This past 2022 holiday season she starred in “I’m Glad It’s Christmas” on Great American Family and received the 45th Kennedy Center Honors for…

Helado Negro
Presented by Cincinnati Memorial Hall Society at Memorial Hall OTR Cincinnati, OH
Helado Negro is the project of Roberto Carlos Lange, a producer and singer-songwriter celebrated for crafting compassionate, atmospheric, and experimental pop music. Across his work, Lange has built a reputation for weaving together deeply personal reflections with broader meditations on the world around him, often balancing themes of vulnerability, hope, and uncertainty with an ever-present sense of curiosity. His new EP, The Last Sound On Earth (Big Dada, out November 7), reflects on despair, hope, and inspiration against the backdrop of a planet in crisis. Initially inspired by the question, “What will the last sound I hear before I die be?”, Lange channels frenetic electronics, distortion, and echo into songs that capture feelings of dread, but also the possibility of renewal. Lead single “More,” accompanied by a video from filmmaker Annapurna Kumar, explores the paradox of hyperconnection and loneliness, while other tracks confront power structures (“Sender Receiver”), protection and cynicism (“Protector”), and the balance between nothingness and possibility (“Zenith”). Despite the heavy themes, movement and joy remain central to Lange’s practice. Performing live, he transforms grief and tension into something freeing, asking, “How can I dance to this grief?” The result is music that never shies away from complexity, but ultimately searches for release and connection. As Lange frames it himself: “What is the last sound on earth? The last sound is love… that’s the sound I hope to hear.” With The Last Sound On Earth, Helado Negro opens a new chapter, offering listeners music that resonates on both intimate and universal scales—a reminder that even in moments…
