Opening reception of "Voices from Kenya: Social and Cultural Reflections”
Presented by SOS ART CINCINNATI at Kennedy Heights Arts Center Cincinnati, OH
This is the 5th biennial “Voices from…” print exhibit and cultural festival that SOS ART is curating and organizing in partnership with Kennedy Heights Arts Center (KHAC). The first four “Voices from...” were from the countries of Oaxaca/Mexico, Lebanon, Czechia, India, and this year from Kenya. The “Voices from Kenya” show consists of 154 prints by 42 established contemporary Kenyan artists reflecting on their social and cultural reality, accompanied by Kenyan cultural and film mini-festivals The exhibit opens on Saturday June 27 at KHAC and closes on August 22. There will be an accompanying Kenyan cultural mini-festival that will take place on Saturday July 11, 12pm to 6pm at KHAC, a guided curator tour on July 15 , 10am- 12pm and by a Kenyan movie mini-festival that will take place on Sunday August 2, 9, and 16, 2 - 5pm at Esquire Theatre. Visiting Kenyan artist, James Mweu, whose work is part of the exhibit, will be in Cincinnati for the opening reception. There will also be Kenyan Music during the occasion. Airbrush Workshop

This class is a one day 5 hour workshop for those whose weekday schedule doesn’t allow for taking on new challenges but who have time on weekends to learn a new form of art. The workshop runs 10:00am-3:00pm. In the first half of the workshop you will be introduced to the airbrush, its history and the basics of how it works. You will be shown the different techniques of using stencils, masks, and free handing. A short break will be taken to allow for a quick bite to eat and to stretch your legs. In the second half we will discuss the different airbrushes and equipment needed to get started with the art of airbrushing. We will then finish this session with a group project which will consist of all the techniques that you have been taught. The cost is $150.00 with ALL SUPPLIES PROVIDED, however if a student has their own airbrush they are encouraged to bring it . Deaf Day: Rotunda Tour with Cincinnati Heritage Programs

During a free, 45-minute walking tour of the 1933 train station, docents partnered with ASL interpreters explain the architecture, construction and art of one of the finest examples of the Art Deco style, including the world famous mosaic murals. Formed in Detroit in 1989, ICP's best-known lineup consists of rappers Violent J (Joseph Bruce) and Shaggy 2 Dope (Joseph Utsler). Insane Clown Posse performs a style of hardcore hip-hop known as horrorcore and is known for its elaborate live performances. The duo has earned two platinum and five gold albums. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the entire catalog of the group had sold 6.5 million units in the United States and Canada as of April 2007. The group has established a dedicated following called Juggalos numbering in the "tens of thousands". Mini Explorer Camp: Session 2

Mini Explorers (For children 4-6 years old*) will set off on an adventure through the wonders of Kentucky, exploring themes such as prehistoric people and animals, pioneers, American Indians, wildlife and other natural treasures. Campers will enjoy a variety of crafts, games, and more! Campers will receive a camp t-shirt, daily snack and bottled water. Each child needs to bring a packed lunch each day. Cost is $120 per child (first child; $90 additional child) for museum members and $185 (first child; $90 additional child) for non-members, which includes a one-year family membership to BCM at a $10 discount. *MUST be able use toilet by oneself The camp will be held at the museum at 1600 Montague Road-Devou Park, Covington, KY 41011, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 30, July 1 and 2.
