Mindful Poetry Local Gathering - October

Inspired by the Gatherings we held for Cincinnati-based Young Professionals during National Poetry Month 2026, we are hosting an evening of nourishing community and creativity in our Walnut Hills space. The format is simple. In each session, we meditate, consider a single poem, receive a prompt, write, and then share with the group. Afterward, we invite attendees to remain for a half hour of fellowship. Hosted by Kentucky-based writer and educator Alexandra McIntosh. This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region's primary source for arts funding. Boos & Bites: A Spooky Night at Newport Aquarium

Get ready for a spooky night beneath the waves at Fish + Sips: Boos & Bites, an adults-only evening at Newport Aquarium. On Friday, October 9, from 7:30 to 11 PM, guests can experience the aquarium after hours while surrounded by the glowing pumpkins of Underwater Pumpkin GLOW. Come dressed in your favorite costume and enjoy seasonal food stations, pumpkin desserts, three drink tickets, and fall-inspired signature cocktails available at the bar. Opening pARTy | Corson Hirschfeld: Afterlife

Corson’s interdisciplinary photography evolved from documentary research for the scientific journal he edited, Journal of Herpetology, to commercial projects like the iconic “Rainbow Legs” for the Cincinnati Ballet, ultimately leading to his works of art focused on cultural artifacts residing in museums around the world. For over 15 years, Corson obsessively photographed ancient sacred sites, culminating in Places of Power: Sacred Sites of the Americas and Pacific, a traveling exhibition originating at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History in 1988. Corson’s research, travel, and creation of photographs were painstaking, including his post-production technique of hand painting selenium-toned gelatin silver prints in limited editions of 25. Join us to open this retrospective look at Corson's Places of Power series and other defining work. While time breaks apart the physical world into ever-increasing entropy, it simultaneously builds the essence of our being—culture and self. Time gives us more history and experience, not less. Hirschfeld’s work manifests this paradox, pulling ruins of the past into a present experience—a long view of our timeless humanity. Corson saw his photography as “a thread attached to the person who did it, a bridge between us and the people.” Viewing his work, audiences inherit that thread and bridge to the ancients—and Corson. Museum Make & Sip: Spooky Season

Enjoy a bite-sized art talk, a themed art-making activity, and delightful drinks while connecting with friends, old and new. In October's edition, "unwind" as you listen to ghostly tales from the museum, including the story of Samuel Best's Tall-Case Clock. Then, create your own spooky mixed-media wall clock with the guidance of museum educators. Each participant will receive one complimentary beverage (beer, wine, select mixed drink, or soft drink) to sip while you work. Additional beverages will be available for purchase.
