FotoFocus Biennial: Accra Shepp Panel Discussion

Bearing Witness, Over Everything, Untwined/Interwoven, and Depth of Field, are part of the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial: The Long View. Now in its eighth iteration, The Long View activates over 70 exhibitions at museums, galleries, universities, and public spaces throughout Greater Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, and Northern Kentucky in October 2026. This October, the Art Academy of Cincinnati (AAC) will be a destination for the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial, presenting four exhibitions and five free public events featuring internationally recognized artists, AAC alumni, and emerging student artists and curators. Across four campus galleries, FotoFocus at AAC explores photography as a means of documenting history, preserving memory, examining the present, and imagining what comes next. Artist Accra Shepp joins curator Kevin Moore for a conversation about Bearing Witness, moderated by AAC Academic Dean Sarah Stolar. Event will be held on October 16, 2026, 12:30 – 2 pm in the Lecture Hall at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. New York-based photographer, writer, and educator Accra Shepp presents Bearing Witness, bringing together Occupying Wall Street, The Covid Journals, and The Islands of New York. The three bodies of work examine defining social, political, and environmental moments of the 21st century, from the Occupy movement and COVID-19 pandemic to New York City’s changing island landscapes. Shepp’s photographs are held in major collections including the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Victoria and Albert Museum, and Art Institute of Chicago. Magic Forest Halloween Hikes with Characters

This annual family tradition is held entirely outdoors. Please dress accordingly for the weather. Closed toed hiking shoes are encouraged. The trail is not stroller friendly. There are stairs and some uneven footing on parts of the trail. Please leave your pets at home. Jack-O-Lantern Hike at Caldwell Nature Preserve

Enjoy a moonlit Halloween hike through Caldwell Nature Preserve surrounded by artistic jack-o-lanterns and luminaries along the trail. The Jack-O-Lantern Hike offers a peaceful evening experience for families, couples, and anyone looking to enjoy the forest during the Halloween season. Groups leave every five minutes, with one hike through included per admission. This Saturday evening event has no costumed characters or trick-or-treat stations, making it a quieter alternative to traditional Halloween events. The entire experience takes place outdoors, so guests should dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed-toe hiking shoes. The trail includes stairs and some uneven footing and is not stroller friendly, and pets should be left at home. Advance registration is required, and tickets will not be available at the door. Burnet Woods Fall Fest: Pumpkin Carving and Family Fun

This free community event invites families to enjoy a pumpkin carving and decorating party for kids, with pumpkins available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Trailside Nature Center will be open during the event with support from Nature Education of Cincinnati Parks. Mariemont Paint Out 2026

The Woman's Art Club of Cincinnati Foundation is calling all artists to come and paint the lovely settings and quaint village architecture nestled in this quiet corner slightly east of Cincinnati. The 2026 Mariemont Paint Out is an art competition for plein air painters and an event that brings artists into the public eye. Parks, walking trails, and overlooks are abundant within the Village and maps with featured points of interest are provided. At the conclusion of the Paint Out, the public is invited to join the artists for a reception, awards presentation, and the opportunity to purchase some very fresh fine art. The William G. and Jane Helms Charitable Foundation has generously donated sponsorship for the event. First Place will be $750, Second is $500 and Third is $300 plus numerous awards from local businesses and private donors. In total, over $2,000 in cash and merchandise will be awarded to artists whose work is selected by the nationally known Ohio artist Chuck Marshall, who will serve as judge. This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region's primary source for arts funding.
