Rembrandt: Masterpieces in Black and White
Presented by Taft Museum of Art at Taft Museum of Art Cincinnati, OH
The innovation, creativity, and influence of Rembrandt (Dutch, 1606–1669) are evident not only in his paintings but also in the more than 300 etchings he made during his career. At a time when most saw etching primarily as a vehicle to reproduce famous works of art, Rembrandt utilized the medium to create groundbreaking compositions. Filled with delicate lines and velvety shadows, his etchings often achieve the psychological intensity of his oil paintings. Nearly fifty works in Rembrandt: Masterpieces in Black and White present the depth and breadth of Rembrandt’s etching subjects, including portraits, self-portraits, scenes from daily life, landscapes, narrative scenes, and still lifes. A select group of etchings by Rembrandt’s contemporaries, as well as later admirers including James McNeill Whistler and Pablo Picasso, demonstrate the Dutch master’s enduring influence. Organized by the American Federation of Arts, this exhibition shares rarely seen etchings collected by the Rembrandt House Museum, the artist’s former home and studio in Amsterdam. This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region's primary source for arts funding. The Rooftop Sessions: KNOTTS
Presented by Clifton Cultural Arts Center at Clifton Cultural Arts Center Cincinnati, OH
KNOTTS loops in and out of art pop and indie soul. The band’s members consist of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Adalia Powell-Boehne, keyboardist Antoine Franklin, guitarist Jordan Wilson and drummer Isaiah Cook. Adalia possesses a truly one-of-a-kind plaintive voice, her songs are grounded with a strong sense of someone searching for her place in the world, that might sound like faint praise, but in a world full of show off vocal hysterics KNOTT’S songs feel intimate and real. The Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Best New Artist has been given to KNOTTS, they’ve released music on Soul Step Record Label, and opened for artists such as Thundercat, Post Animal and Lucius.
