Longing: Painting from the Pahari Kingdoms of the Northwest Himalayas
Presented by Cincinnati Art Museum at Cincinnati Art Museum Cincinnati, OH
Featuring more than 40 works of art, Longing: Painting from the Pahari Kingdoms of the Northwest Himalayas will present colorful court paintings from present-day India dating between the 17th and 19th centuries. Practicing unique techniques, artists produced these small, portable paintings primarily for royal, noble and priestly patronage. The paintings were often given as gifts between regional nobility, families and political allies creating large networks of artistic exchange. Longing will be on view February 6–June 7, 2026, at the Cincinnati Art Museum (CAM). Organized thematically, the exhibition encourages visitors to experience art as multisensory. Select paintings will be paired with scent or touch opportunities, while others are paired with musical soundscapes, to heighten the works’ bhava (emotion or mood) and encourage multiple ways to physically, intellectually and emotionally connect with the art. Influenced by the region’s culture and politics, the artworks portray longing in several ways, including through paintings of devotees who long to connect with the divine, individuals and couples who yearn for romance and rulers and noblemen who longed to be at the center of political control This calendar listing is brought to you by Cincy A&E, the Cincinnati region's one-stop, online calendar for arts and entertainment events, powered by ArtsWave.

Treasures From the Attic: 250 Years of Fashion & Furniture
Presented by Behringer-Crawford Museum at Behringer-Crawford Museum Covington, KY
Every chair holds the memory of those who sat in it and every garment bears the imprint of the person who wore it. These ordinary objects quietly document how people lived, worked and expressed themselves. Beginning February 14, 2026, visitors can trace these hidden histories in Treasures From the Attic: 250 Years of Fashion & Furniture, on display at Behringer-Crawford Museum through August 9, 2026. Developed in collaboration with Northern Kentucky University’s Public History Program, the exhibition gives students hands-on museum experience while supporting BCM’s collections, education and exhibition work. “The relationship between these students and the museum is invaluable,” said Dr. Brian Hackett, Associate Professor of History at Northern Kentucky University. “Public history students gain real-world experience in collections care, education and exhibition development, while the museum benefits from the energy and skills of emerging professionals. It’s a partnership that strengthens both institutions and serves the community.” Part of the national America 250 commemoration, Treasures From the Attic invites guests to explore how furniture and fashion can serve as windows into the past. Constructed from regional woods or imported textiles, crafted by hand or guided by machinery, used in parlors, bedrooms, factories or fields, these everyday objects reveal innovation, craftsmanship, resilience and changing cultural values across two and a half centuries. Visitors will have the opportunity to slow down and “read” furniture and clothing by looking for clues: tool marks and joinery, screw heads and veneers, seam finishes and fabric choices, silhouettes and construction techniques. These small details offer…
