Yoga for Grief and Loss: Moving with Change
Presented by The Well at The Well Cincinnati, OH
This gentle, trauma-informed class provides a supportive environment to navigate the complex emotions of grief and loss. The practice thoughtfully integrates mindful movement, intentional breathwork, and resonant sound to invite the body and mind to process and integrate experiences of sadness, change, and transition. Grief needs motion. All expressions of loss are welcome, whether participants are carrying the weight of a loved one's death, a significant health change, a career shift, or any major life transition. No prior yoga experience or flexibility is required. All are welcome to come as they are. This month's theme is Moving with Change. Intention: Use mindful movement to release the 'frozen' or 'stuck' energy that grief can create in the body. Focus on: Acknowledging the natural cycles of change (like winter turning to spring) as a reflection of our own capacity for shifting and releasing. This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region's primary source for arts funding. Domesticus Nature Morte
Presented by DAAP Galleries, University of Cincinnati at DAAP Galleries, Meyers Gallery Cincinnati, OH
Nathan Gorgen and Molly Jo Burke are an artist and designer couple who collaborate on artwork as Byproduct Studios. Their artwork is deeply intertwined with their personal lives, particularly their roles as parents to young children. The birth of their first child, in 2016, catalyzed a shift from independent practices to a collaborative approach. Their creative process is a blend of deliberate planning and intuitive making. Nathan’s background in digital fabrication and woodworking brings a structured, methodical approach to their work, while Molly’s experience with glass and ceramics introduces a more fluid and impulsive element. This dynamic allows them to challenge and push each other’s aesthetic boundaries, resulting in work that is both meticulously crafted and organically inspired. Nam June Paik in Cincinnati: A History
Presented by DAAP Galleries, University of Cincinnati at DAAP Galleries, Reed Gallery Cincinnati, OH
Cincinnati, Ohio’s art scene from1983 to 2003 beheld the collaboration of Nam June Paik (father of video art), Carl Solway Gallery, and print-maker Mark Patsfall. Together they created the Paik Factory which produced Paik’s world renown video sculptures, over 400 artworks, national and international museum exhibitions, public sculptures, and employed many local artists for years. This unique period in Cincinnati’s history is brought back to us through Patsfall’s narration, documentation, and imagery. He recounts the three distinct phases of the Paik Factory and explores the artist’s creative and collaborative process: proposed ideas become rough sketches, sketches become finished sculptures, single works become a series, and a body of work becomes a museum level exhibition.
