Cincinnati/NKY ports’ boundaries expanded, now the #2 U.S. inland port

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has expanded the boundaries for the ports of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky by nearly nine times, creating what is now the second largest inland port in the country.

Ky. Route 16 almost finished, improving I-275 access in Kenton County

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet expects the Ky. 16 road project to be done soon, improving access from I-275 to the cities of Taylor Mill, Independence and southern Kenton County.  

First leg of Riverfront Commons opens

Earlier this month, a 3,000-foot pedestrian bridge and path atop and carved into the earthen levee between the Purple People Bridge and Daniel Carter Beard (Big Mac) Bridge. It's the first leg of the Riverfront Commons project, an effort to create more accessible walking and biking routes on the souther banks of the Ohio River. And it represents a tenacious community-driven effort to better connect Northern Kentucky's cities. Reports the Cincinnati Enquirer:    This is a symbol of what can be accomplished when public officials get together and work toward a common goal," said Roger Peterman, chairman of the Riverfront Commons Committee, a member of Southbank's board of directors and chairman of the Northern Kentucky Port Authority. The $1.2 million path connects the restaurants, condominiums and apartments along Riverboat Row with the Purple People Bridge and with Newport on the Levee. Eventually, it will be one piece in an 11.5-mile multi-use path that stretches along the Ohio River from Fort Thomas in the east to Ludlow in the west. Read the full story here.  

New cross-county TANK route creates quick trip through town

Officials in Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties have agreed to fund a bus route that runs across the region. Currently, all TANK bus routes run to and from downtown Covington and downtown Cincinnati, but the new route will connect cities across Northern Kentucky.

Sterling Cut Glass to move new HQ and production facility to NKY

Erlanger-based Sterling Cut Glass will break ground next month on a 56,000-square-foot facility in the CirclePort Business Park, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Allegiant considers making CVG a “base” airport

The CEO of Allegiant Air says the airline may add more flights from Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport, possibly to Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Fort Lauderdale. And if Allegiant's fleet of planes at CVG grows, they could consider making the airport a "base," reports the Cincinnati Enquirer:

Delta, US Airways add flights at CVG

Two major airlines plan to add flights during peak travel seasons this year at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. U.S. Airways is set to add another daily, nonstop flight to Charlotte this summer, starting July 2. Delta Air Lines plans to offer daily flights to Cancun, Mexico, during the holiday season, beginning Dec. 1.
