This year’s BLINK celebrated Cincinnati’s LGBTQ community with an 18,000-pound rainbow installation
The 30-foot-tall traveling exhibit lit up Smale Riverfront Park with more than 25,000 LED lights.
Among the many highlights of Cincinnati’s second BLINK, the rainbow bridge was a standout feature. The 18,000-pound structure comprised of more than 25,000 LED lights was one of the first installations to appear in advance of the event to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the LGBTQ community.
The rainbow, which is 75 feet long and 30 feet high, is a traveling sculpture created by San Francisco-based artists Josh Zubkoff and Srikanth Guittikonda, and took more than a year to create. According to the artists, it was designed as both a tribute to the LGBTQ community and “to make people happy.”
Previously, it was displayed at Burning Man in Nevada before heading to the Queen City. Kathy Nardiello, the chair of ArtsWave Pride, a group that connects LGBTQ individuals and their allies through art, says: “We decided that if it was possible to bring this beautiful structure in, then we would.”
