UC’s Gardner Neuroscience Institute receives national attention for its innovative space
Not only will the facility improve patient experiences, but it will also offer space for medical professionals to collaborate.
The new 114,000-square-foot Gardner Neuroscience Institute at UC Health is the first step in a new campus master plan by Cannon Design and Cincinnati-based WA Architects, and its modern steel-and-glass façade, coupled with tensile white scrim — a delicately crinkled surface that varies in transparency and iridescence depending on the position of the sun — is being noticed for both its architectural beauty and its innovative technology.
The $68 million project combines 15 specialty centers, including those for treating epilepsy, brain tumors, mood disorders, stroke patients, and Alzheimer’s disease, and features collaborative workspaces for physicians, researchers, and students.
