They’ve been working hard down on the farm. Pendleton DataFarm, a Northern Kentucky company that provides what it calls “a unique blend of country hospitality and technical savvy,” is one of 12 small businesses recognized by the state of Kentucky for innovation and leadership. The 12 were the first to be named to the state’s Pacesetter Business Recognition Program, which judges selected based on introduction of innovative products, increasing employment, increasing sales or production, community service, capacity to grow and entrepreneurial leadership.

Based in Falmouth, Pendleton DataFarm provides advanced document imaging, automated production and office management systems, as well as document research services for the mortgage industry. The 48-employee firm also has a unit called SyncRoots, which promotes community development through online community forums, and Blanket Creek Pottery (this is the unique part), which specializes in high-end, handmade pottery.

PDF’s Michael Lanin says the award is a big morale booster for the firm. “We are just about to roll out a major expansion program in the midst of tumultuous industry and a difficult economic situation,” he says. “It feels like the Commonwealth is behind us, saying, “We believe in you, go make it happen.'”
